The Kingdom’s maritime operations and logistics industry are expected to flourish as a result of the Saudi Ports Authority granting fresh permits for several functional domains. The Mawani authorities stated in a news release that granting these permits is in line with their objective of establishing high-quality and efficient port operations in the Kingdom.
According to Mawani, licenses have been granted for a number of activities, such as pilotage, marine traffic signals, maritime support, ship repair, and routine maintenance. The announcement also mentioned the issuance of licenses for port storage, container handling, and maritime consulting services.
Mawani’s overarching plan to establish Saudi Arabia into a worldwide logistics hub by the end of this decade includes the issue of these additional permits. The National Transport and Logistics Strategy of Saudi Arabia aims to raise the sector’s share of the Kingdom’s GDP from its current 6 percent to 10 percent by 2030.
Mawani went on to say in the statement that additional licenses were granted for tasks like hydrographic surveying, port job training, garbage recycling, and ship waste management in addition to bunkering ships in terminals. The King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu, the Kingdom, now has more ship anchoring sites, according to a January announcement from the government.
Newly created docking zones, according to a statement from Mawani, would aid in modernizing a number of port logistics services, such as supplying ships with fuel and supplies. The authority also mentioned that shorter ship docking times and higher operational performance indicators for the terminal will result from these additional mooring zones.
