On October 16, 2024, a memorandum of understanding was signed between GAMI and GACA. The development of advanced air mobility technologies will be further emphasized through this memorandum. The agreement executed in Riyadh by GAMI Governor Ahmed Al-Ohali and GACA President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej symbolizes a further significant step towards the establishment of systems that would enable these advanced flight operations within the Kingdom.
The partnership focuses on the Advanced Air Mobility project, towards popularizing VTOL aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles. In the MoU, a framework of exchange of scientific and practical expertise is set between both authorities which focuses on building working groups, workshops, and training programs for reinforcing knowledge sharing in this emerging sector.
This is a critical element of the partnership, defining and standardizing the traffic management procedures in handling uncrewed airliners for more comprehensive, safe operations and efficiency in advanced aerial technologies. The initiative is expected to open new avenues in maintenance and repair services and enhance the long-term sustainability of the aviation industry in Saudi Arabia.
The contract fits into GAMI’s overall strategy to license and promote localization in military industries with main focus on aerial mobility. It also aligns with strategic objectives of GACA, with partnerships ensuring safe, sustainable, and efficient transportation solutions compliant with international best practices.
Addressing the International Civil Aviation Organization Advanced Air Mobility Symposium recently held in Montreal, Al-Duailej highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment to pioneering innovative aviation technologies around the world. The market value for the industry stood at $9.7 billion in 2023 and is expected to soar to $50 billion by 2032, with more than 200 cities worldwide looking to implement these transformative technologies.
This MoU is a landmark collaboration, setting the stage for enabling Saudi Arabia in enhancing its capability in advanced air mobility while contributing toward the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
